Mongolia’s November Coal Exports

The latest data released by the General Administration of Customs of Mongolia shows that from January to November 2023, Mongolia’s total coal exports totaled 59.6911 million tons, an increase of 32.5851 million tons year-on-year, an increase of 120.21%. The export volume was US$7.931 billion, a year-on-year increase of 38.21%.

Mongolian customs did not provide single-month data. China Coal Resources Network calculated based on historical data that in November 2023, Mongolia’s coal export volume was 7.651 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.6508 million tons, an increase of 91.27%; a month-on-month increase of 2.4522 million tons , an increase of 47.17%.

In November, Mongolia’s coal export volume was US$884 million; based on this, its average export price was estimated to be US$115.48/ton, a year-on-year decrease of US$40.99/ton, and a month-on-month decrease of US$5.73/ton.

Data show that in the first 11 months, Mongolia exported 59.3731 million tons of coal to China, a year-on-year increase of 134.07%, accounting for 99% of Mongolia’s total coal exports.

In November, all Mongolian coal was exported to China for the seventh consecutive month. In that month, it exported 7.651 million tons of coal to China, a year-on-year increase of 101.18% and a month-on-month increase of 47.17%. The export volume was US$884 million, and the average export price was US$115.48/ton, a year-on-year decrease of US$38.81/ton, and a month-on-month decrease of US$5.73/ton.

In terms of coal types, from January to November, Mongolia’s bituminous coal exports were 58.9375 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 119.51%; anthracite exports were 154,700 tons, a year-on-year increase of 23.93%; other coal exports were 598,900 tons, a year-on-year increase 355.51%.

In November, Mongolia’s bituminous coal exports were 7.542 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 89.70% and a month-on-month increase of 48.26%; anthracite coal exports were 2,500 tons, which was zero in the same period last year, a month-on-month decrease of 87.06%; other coal exports were 106,600 tons. , a year-on-year increase of 335.40% and a month-on-month increase of 14.66%.
