In November this year, Indonesia’s seaborne coal export volume declined from the previous month, but was still higher than the same period last year, with an increase of nearly 10%, the second consecutive month of year-on-year growth.
Kpler ship tracking data shows that in November 2023, Indonesian coal exports were 45.343 million tons, an increase of 9.68% from 41.3423 million tons in the same period last year, and a decrease of 6.5% from 48.4968 million tons in October.
Data show that from January to November, Indonesia exported a total of 464 million tons of seaborne coal, a year-on-year increase of 10.88%.
In November, Indonesian coal was mainly exported to Asia. The export volume was 43.3831 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.64% and a month-on-month decrease of 9.09%, accounting for 95.7% of Indonesia’s total coal exports that month.
In terms of export destinations, Indonesia exported the largest amount of coal to mainland China that month, which was 18.5335 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 11.32% and a month-on-month decrease of 3.66%.
In November, Indonesia exported 9.0868 million tons of coal to India, a year-on-year increase of 60.92% and a month-on-month decrease of 29.6%; Indonesia exported 3.3231 million tons of coal to the Philippines, a year-on-month increase of 24.63% and 2.96% respectively.
In that month, Indonesia exported 2.1772 million tons of coal to South Korea, a year-on-year decrease of 20.01% and a month-on-month increase of 5.3%; Indonesia exported 2.0428 million tons of coal to Malaysia, a year-on-month increase of 11.2% and 26.71% respectively.
